Discussion points
- During the early Viking period, only the richest Vikings could afford iron to make armour and weapons. Some Viking warriors would protect themselves with animal skins and leather instead of metal armour. Most wouldn't be able to afford swords but they would still have axes and spears.
- There is no evidence that Vikings had horns on their helmets.
- Viking warriors would have had different kinds of axes and spears. When fighting an army they would have used bows and arrows too.
- The name 'Viking' came from a word that meant 'to go raiding' or 'to go pirating'.
