How many lines of symmetry?
Drag the shapes into the right boxes. When you are finished, use the ‘Mark’ button to see if you are right.
Discussion points
- What does symmetry mean?
- How do you identify a line of symmetry?
- What do you notice about the direction of the line/s of symmetry?
Teaching tips:
Before completing this activity, cut out shapes from ‘How many lines of symmetry? Printable sheets’ and let children explore symmetry in a variety of shapes by folding them. They could group them into zero lines, one line, two lines etc.
Discuss each shape in turn and ask children what they notice. Can they justify their reasoning for placing it in their selected column?
