- A desert is a place that gets less than 25cm of precipitation a year.
- The ice sheets at the poles get no snowfall, so they count as deserts too! They are polar deserts.
- Hot deserts are the second largest habitat on Earth after the polar habitat. This includes the Sahara, Arabian, Australian and Indian deserts. They are generally nearer the equator.
- Daytime temperatures can be higher than 50°C!
- Cold deserts are located further from the equator and don't get so hot. They get freezing temperatures in the winter. Cold deserts are found in America, South America and central Asia.
