Parts of a circle
Drag the labels to the correct place on the circle. When you are finished, use the ‘Mark’ button to see if you are right.
Discussion points
- How could you use the diameter to work out the radius and vice versa?
- Why is the centre point of a circle important?
- How could you measure the circumference?
Teaching tips:
Following this activity, give children time to explore and measure the circumference, diameter and radius on circles of varying sizes. They could use rulers and string to measure these parts. How do they know they have measured accurately? Have they use the centre point of the circle to help? (It might be useful to provide wipeable marker pens so children can mark the centre point on the shapes).
See if children can use these stem sentences accurately to recall what each part is:
Stem sentences:
‘The circumference of a circle is ______.
‘The radius of a circle is ______.’
The diameter of a circle is ____.’
Use alongside ‘Ordering: degrees on a circle’ and ‘Circles quiz - [age1011]’ to look in more detail at circles.
