Slime time
Look at the shape in the top left of the screen. Can you find the same shape within the lines? Drop sweets on the lines and make the snail trace around the matching shape.
Discussion points
- Can you count the sides of the shape as the snail or slug moves?
- How many corners has the shape got?
- What other shapes can you spot within the lines?
- Could the snail or slug make a circle? Why/why not?
Teaching tips:
This activity gets children beginning to look at the properties of 2-D shapes in a fun and engaging way. It also allows children to see these shapes in different sizes and orientations. If you have lines on your playground, children might like to walk along the lines to see if they can make some 2-D shapes.
Stem sentence: ‘I can use the lines to make a ______.’
Extension: ‘It has ____ sides and _____ corners.’
Use with ‘How many corners? - Basic’, ‘How many corners’ and ‘How many sides? - 2-D shapes’ to enhance learning on 2-D shapes and their simple properties.
