Sky larks: Exception elevation
Play against the computer or against friends.
Collect gnats by answering spelling questions - the more gnats, the harder the spelling. There are also surprise bonuses to discover in the treasure boxes. The first player to 20 gnats is the winner.
Pay 1 gnat to move a red monster or travel 2 spaces. Golden gnats are worth 3 gnats!
Teaching tips:
Use this game to support the practice of KS1 Common Exception Words, taken from National Curriculum document: English Appendix 1: Spelling.
Use as a fun starter activity before English or SPaG lessons, or for daily spelling practice. Children can play individually or with their peers - ideal for sharing devices. This activity could also be played as a class; pupils vs. teacher = guaranteed engagement!
Question settings can be discreetly adjusted for children who are working above or below their age expectations.
Spelling lists for each age group can also be printed and/or saved for practice away from the screens.
'Assign activity' to your class to see feedback on correct and incorrect spellings from each pupil, enabling you to identify any areas for further practice and monitor progress over time.
