Volcanoes
Volcanoes are landforms (usually mountains) where molten rock and gas erupt through the earth's crust.
They normally occur near the edges of the planet's tectonic plates where pressure from the movement of these plates builds up. Volcanoes can cause major devastation for people who live nearby.
Choose a template and create a volcano factsheet using the picture and text tools.
Discussion points
- There are three types of volcanoes: extinct, dormant and active. What do these terms mean?
- The molten rock which comes out of volcanoes is called lava. Below the surface it is called magma.
- Lava is not the only thing ejected from volcanoes. There can also be ash, rocks and poisonous gas.
