Tectonic plates
The earth is made up of seven primary tectonic plates which either move away from, collide into or rub alongside each other.
It is the movement of these plates which cause earthquakes and the formation and eruption of volcanoes.
Use the picture and text tools to write about a particular tectonic plate or movement such as the so-called "Ring of Fire".
Discussion points
- There are eight secondary tectonic plates.
- The study of the movement of the earth's crust is called "Plate Tectonics".
