• Claude Monet (pronounced “Clord Monnay”) was perhaps the most famous Impressionist painter and one of the developers of the Impressionism movement.
• He was French and lived between 1840 and 1926.
• At the time, Impressionism was ground-breaking as it went against the normal way of painting. Instead of taking care to produce a smooth effect that hid the brush marks, Impressionists worked quickly to capture a moment and kept their brush marks visible.
