Teaching tips:
Use this classroom tool to bring your class together to focus on a shared task at the beginning of the day. Practise sequencing the days of the week, identifying dates and months, and making weather observations. Working together to complete the pinboard will give children a sense of accomplishment and help set them up for a positive day.
Use the 'feelings' section to model how to verbalise emotions and encourage children to do the same, explaining that we can experience more than one feeling at a time and that these feelings are usually temporary. Select different children to demonstrate how feelings vary from person to person, reinforcing the importance of being mindful of others.
Use the 'custom dates' section to remind children of upcoming events.
Gather the whole class together to complete the pinboard on an interactive whiteboard and select children to help with different sections. For writing practice, challenge children to complete the board on individual whiteboards, either independently or in pairs. It may also be beneficial to use with a small group of targeted children, as a way to increase focus and engagement at the start of each day.
