Magnet match
This activity is an introduction to spelling sounds in new ways.
Use 'Alternative grapheme settings' to choose which graphemes to focus on. There are vowel and consonant GPCs to choose from.
The green monster shows the default way to spell a given phoneme. The pink monster presents alternative graphemes that make the same sound.
When they are finished, drag the grapheme magnets back into the correct rows of the table. Sometimes a grapheme can go in more than one row!
If click-and-drop mouse behaviour is more desirable than dragging, under ‘Setup’s phonics settings’, turn the ‘sticky pointer’ on.
Teaching tips:
For similar activities relating to graphemes with the same sound, try ‘Baseball bash’ or ‘Cat splat’.
