Scribble and spell
Look at the painting on Dog's easel. Spell the word by dragging the letters into the right place. You can click or tap on the painting to hear the word.
Use 'Blending and segmenting settings' to choose the sound bank. With 'Prioritise latest GPC' turned on, the most recently taught phoneme will be given more weight. With this setting turned off, content up to that point will come up in any order.
N.B. The games in this section require cumulative content meaning they are tied to the phonics programmes Letters and Sounds or Jolly Phonics. Choose which programme to use under 'Setup's phonics settings'.
This game supports 'sticky pointer' functionality, whereby dragging with the mouse is replaced with click to pick up and click to drop. This can be easier for some children who struggle with mouse control. Find this setting in 'Setup's phonics settings'.
Teaching tips:
Use the other activities in the ‘Segmenting for spelling’ folder to support children to segment words in order to spell them.
‘Build the word’ and ‘Lost letters’ are particularly good introduction activities to get children hearing beginning, middle and end sounds.
